Abstract: The project is to develop an approach to formulating safe and effective staffing levels (SESL) in UK physiotherapy that is evidence-based and that has achieving and upholding high-quality compassionate care for patients as its focus. The approach has to have applicability across the UK, taking account of each country’s health and social care structures and policies, and reflecting the breadth of specialisms/patient pathways, settings, sectors and service delivery models in and through which physiotherapy is provided. The requirement is:
- The development of a practical online tool and guidance for CSP members to support them in formulating and advocating for the physiotherapy staffing levels required to deliver safe and effective patient care within their particular service (taking account of the multiple patient, environmental and staffing factors that need to inform local decision-making)
- A project report with recommendations on addressing SESL within physiotherapy services across the diverse specialties/patient pathways, settings and sectors to which the UK physiotherapy workforce contributes
- Materials suitable for publication that enable the CSP to make a significant contribution to national (and international) debate on staffing levels in contemporary health and social care.
